Frequently Asked Questions ...
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a very normal and natural altered state of consciousness or an altered state of awareness, one we all experience from time to time in which the mind remains clear, alert and focused on something.
For example you may have become completely absorbed while watching television, or perhaps driven to work on auto pilot. That's the same kind of altered state as hypnosis.
Some people have misconceptions about hypnosis and belive it is a frightening or eerie state, or that it feels very weird, but it's actually very normal and very pleasant - just ask anyone who has experienced hypnotic trance for themselves.
After a hypnosis session, some people will ask if they have really been hypnotised, because for them it feels like such a normal state and they were expecting
something very strange. The "zombie-like" states you see depicted in movies and on television are pure fantasy.
What is The Sandford Technique(TM)?

Having been developed after many years of research into the effectiveness of hypnosis and the ways in which it can be safely applied, if you are able to use your imagination, then The Sandford Technique(TM) is recommended for instant and lasting change.
How does hypnosis work?
Our minds work on two levels, the conscious and the unconscious. We make decisions, think and act with our conscious mind whilst our unconscious mind is responsible for "everything" else. Part of the unconscious mind's responsibility is to run any habitual behaviours we may have for example.
Whilst our conscious mind wanders in any direction it pleases, it allows communication directly with the unconscious mind. This is why it is so quick and easy to change habits of a lifetime through the use of hypnosis, as we talk directly to the parts that run the habit.
Will hypnosis work for me?
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, which means if you want to do it, you will.
It is recognised that the majority of people are "hypnotisable", specifically people with and IQ of at least 70, and no severe mental disorders. Therefore successful results are achievable by virtually everyone.
Is hypnosis safe?
Yes, hypnosis is completely safe and natural. When you begin to understand that whilst in hypnotic trance you are fully aware and in control at all times, then you may realise you are able to terminate the session at any time. Hypnosis is not sleep, nor can you get "stuck" in a state of hypnosis.
Hypnotic trance is a natural state, which most of us experience automatically, for example when we drive our car and "forget" what happened during some of the journey, or when we watch a gripping movie we become so engrossed in the action. Watch people in supermarket checkout queues ... see how they naturally enter trance!
Can I be made to do things against my will whilst in trance?
No. You cannot be made to do anything against your will, or against your moral code. Whichever moral and ethical codes you have in a normal waking state will still be in place under hypnosis, for example you can actually lie when in hypnosis. Usually, if a hypnotherapist's suggestion conflicts with a client's value system, the client simply brings him or herself up out of hypnosis; they just "wake up."
How will I know I am hypnotised and in trance?
Most people cannot distinguish between trance and waking states. Some people feel relaxed and lethargic, whilst others may feel a lightness of being. One thing that people do notice is an inexplicable change in their behaviour.
How does hypnosis help me to change my behaviour, for example quit smoking?
Smoking is a habitual behaviour, and is therefore controlled by the unconscious mind. How many times have you reached for a cigarette and lit it before you even realised what you were doing?
Since hypnosis allows communication with the unconscious mind, working directly with the unconscious mind through hypnosis means you can make an effortless transition into the healthy lifestyle of a happy non-smoker.
